An on-site server, chosen for the job it has to do.

We are a Dell partner. We choose, order and install Dell PowerEdge servers for offices, firms and healthcare providers in Rome: sizing, rack and UPS, virtualisation with Hyper-V or Proxmox, Windows Server, backups and remote management with iDRAC.

The problem

The server under the desk holds until it doesn't.

A PC used as a server, a single disk, no spare power supply, Windows Server still on its evaluation licence. Business software, shared folders and remote access often depend on a machine nobody monitors and whose warranty expiry nobody knows. When it stops, the office stops, and getting back up needs a part nobody has in stock.

How it works

From choosing the model to services in production.

  1. 01

    Sizing

We start from what the server has to run: business software, files, remote desktop, healthcare applications such as a RIS. We estimate processor, memory, disks and growth, and consider whether an on-site server really makes sense or the cloud is better.

  2. 02

    Choice and order

Tower for an office without a cabinet, rack where there's a network cabinet. PERC RAID controller, redundant power supplies, iDRAC for remote management, ProSupport warranty of the right length. We order through Dell distributors, including for several sites at once.

  3. 03

    Installation

Mounting in the rack or on site, connection to a UPS with orderly shutdown during a power cut, iDRAC configured so we can step in even when the operating system isn't responding.

  4. 04

    Virtualisation and Windows Server

Hyper-V or Proxmox, with virtual machines separated by role: Active Directory, file server, Remote Desktop, business software. Windows Server licences in order and managed in Dell Digital Locker. Existing servers are migrated to virtual machines (P2V) without reinstalling applications.

  5. 05

    Backups, documentation and management

Virtual machine backups with an off-site copy, documentation of configuration and licences, monitoring of disks, power supplies and temperatures. Then we remain your point of contact for updates, warranty and repairs.

Who it's for

When an on-site server still makes sense.

Healthcare providers

RIS, clinical software and archives that must stay on site or keep working without internet.

Professional firms

The firm's business software over Remote Desktop, to work from outside the office too.

Offices and SMEs

Active Directory, file server and printers on one reliable, monitored machine.

Groups with several sites

The same model and configuration at every site, ordered together.

Why Cloudfactory

A Dell partner, and cloud as well.

We are a Dell partner and we manage both on-site servers and AWS infrastructure: more than 110 servers, since 2011. That's why we won't suggest a server you don't need. If your applications run well in the cloud, if people work across several sites or there's no suitable room, AWS may be the better choice. If you need on-site performance, data that must stay in house or software that only runs locally, a well-configured PowerEdge is still the simplest answer.

FAQ

Before you order the server.

What server does an office or firm need?

It depends on what it has to run and how many people use it. For example, we installed a PowerEdge with an Intel Xeon E-2334 processor and Hyper-V hosting two Windows Server 2022 virtual machines. We work it out with you during sizing.

What is iDRAC and why does it matter?

It's the remote management card in Dell servers: it lets us power the server on and off, see the screen and check the hardware's health even when Windows won't start. So many interventions can be done remotely, without waiting for a technician on site.

Can an evaluation Windows Server be made legitimate?

Yes: a Windows Server installed as Evaluation can be converted to Standard with a proper licence, without reinstalling. We have done it on servers we found in that state, with the licences then managed in Dell Digital Locker.

Can the old server become a virtual machine?

Yes, with a P2V migration: the physical server becomes a virtual machine on the new hardware, with the same applications and data. We did this with a clinic's RIS, migrated onto Hyper-V.
